Former apprentice receives compensation of £350,000 after contracting mesothelioma

Man who worked with boilers and heating systems was regularly exposed to asbestos

Posted on 25 January 2012

Specialist asbestos claims lawyer and partner, Daniel Easton, has recovered £350,000 on behalf of his client who was diagnosed with mesothelioma early in 2011.  The significant settlement was achieved in under eight months, without the need for a trial.

Our client was exposed to asbestos in a number of different positions from when he left school in the 1960’s up to and including the early 1980’s.  He initially served an apprenticeship with Matthew Hall Mechanical Services as an apprentice heating and ventilation engineer and later went on to work with Atlas Heating, K L White & Partners and Ashwell Scott Ltd.  Although he increased in seniority throughout his jobs, he continued to be exposed to asbestos going in and out of boiler houses and was constantly working around asbestos lagging which released the deadly dust which later caused his condition.  In his early years he worked alongside the laggers who applied asbestos paste to the pipes.

He approached asbestos claims specialists Leigh Day & Co shortly after his diagnosis and his claim was taken forward on an urgent basis under the “Mesothelioma Fast Track”.  Within six months Daniel Easton had secured a court order confirming the employers were liable for his illness and securing an early interim payment.
