Leigh Day & Co has been instructed by a number of individuals who were prescribed a vitamin and mineral supplement known as Formula F, described as a combination of vitamin and minerals formulated to help support the immune system. The supplement contained excessive and unsafe levels of Vitamin D requiring hospitalization.

The US dietary reference for tolerable upper intake of Vitamin D for children and adults is set at 2000iu per day. Formula F stated on the label that the Vitamin D content of each capsule contained approximately 4mcg of Vitamin D (160iu). Recent analysis carried out of the supplements, however, indicates that they actually contained 113,600iu of Vitamin D per capsule, well over the stated dosage.

The overdose resulted in patients suffering hypercalcemia due to high concentrations of calcium which can cause a range of side effects which can include: cardiac arrest, renal failure, kidney stones, kidney damage, hypertension, bone problems and nausea amongst other things.

Leigh Day's product liability team has unrivalled experience in dealing with defective drug claims.  The team is ranked as the number one law firm in the field of product liability by legal directories Chambers and Legal 500.  If you are concerned that you or a member of your family may have been affected by taking Formula F, please contact our Bozena Michalowska on 020 7650 1311.
