Leigh Day is the lead firm of lawyers in the group action against the manufacturers of the Depuy Pinnacle Cup with Metal Liner which is used with a metal femoral head and stem. It falls into the category of large head metal on metal components (LHMOM) which the British Orthopaedic Association have confirmed should no longer be implanted in patients because of the higher than expected failure rate.
Patients implanted with this type of component, like those implanted with the ASR, are suffering from adverse reactions to metal debris which can lead to bone and tissue damage resulting in the early failure of their hip replacement.
Leigh Day is currently acting on behalf of 120 Pinnacle Metal on Metal claimants and served proceedings in March 2013.
A Group Litigation Order (GLO) was approved on 31 July 2014 and Leigh Day was appointed as the lead solicitors. A steering committee of four other law firms was also appointed.
