The specialist product liability team at Leigh Day is at the forefront of consumer safety
and the cosmetic industry is no exception.
As one of the largest product liability
teams in the UK we have vast experience in representing consumers who have suffered a range of injuries including skin burns, rashes, anaphylactic shock, extreme swelling and long term skin conditions due to their exposure to harmful ingredients in every day products.
Our unparalleled experience includes securing compensation for a range of individuals who have suffered skin burns following the use of a deodorants, sun creams and everyday skin care products. We have also advised individuals who have suffered severe inflammatory responses to their face, scalp and tongue following the use of various hair dye products and those who have suffered damage to their hair following the use of hair styling products.
The purpose of the cosmetic industry is to manufacture and supply goods and services to enhance beauty, promote good health and protect from UV rays. Whilst the large majority of household goods and safe and free of harm, there is growing concern over the way in which products are manufactured and sold in the open market with little or no regard to the safety of the end user.
Product liability partner Michelle Victor
and her team at Leigh Day are campaigning for tighter regulation of the cosmetic industry and feel that more needs to be done to ensure that products placed on the market undergo vigorous testing and better labelling before being supplied to the public. We welcome the EC Cosmetics Regulation which came into force on 11th July 2013. This piece of legislation aims to improve cosmetic product safety for consumers in the UK and reduce the dangers and risks contained in cosmetic products.
If you have been injured after using a cosmetic product we advise you to immediately seek medical attention providing your healthcare consultant with details of any such products that you feel could have caused you harm. It is important that you bring this to their attention to enable them to consider the appropriate remedies for you.
