Leigh Day's prison law team

You don’t need to feel alone because the prison law team at Leigh Day has been fighting for the rights of prisoners for more than a decade.

We have won cases for prisoners throughout England and Wales relating to healthcare, discrimination, human rights, wrongful imprisonment and sexual abuse.
  • We only act for those who have suffered injury or whose rights have been violated.
  • We are not afraid to take on challenging or unpopular cases which push the boundaries of law.
  • We act for people in prison using legal aid (“pubic funding”) or under a conditional fee agreement (“no win, no fee”).
  • If we take a case on, we will visit the client in prison or speak to them by videolink.
  • The case is handled by a named legally qualified prison law specialist who the client is able to write to or speak with by telephone.
  • We are recognised as leading experts in prison law in all of the legal directories.
  • We are active members of the Association of Prison Lawyers, the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, Action against Medical Accidents, the Discrimination Law Association and the Human Rights Lawyers Association.
  • We are trying to effect change within the wider prison system and we have given written and oral evidence to the Justice Committee on Older Prisoners and to the Joint Committee on Draft Voting Eligibility (Prisoners) Bill on prisoner voting.
  • We write regularly on issues affecting prisoners and the prison system.
