Actions against the police

If you have suffered abuse at the hands of the police we can assist you through the police complaints process, appeals to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and/or through a civil claim for compensation. We can also assist in challenging decisions of public bodies by way of judicial review.

Have you been detained by the police? Have you suffered abuse at the hands of the police? Have the police discriminated against you on the grounds of your race, religion, gender or other protected characteristic? Have the police interfered with your rights under the Human Rights Act?

Leigh Day’s human rights specialists can help you bring actions against the police for assault and battery, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office and claims for breaches of the Equality Act 2010 and the Human Rights Act 1998.

We also represent families at inquests.

Case example

  • We helped NB in bringing a claim in false imprisonment and were successful in securing damages before the need to issue proceedings at Court.
