Chris specialises in and equal pay and disability discrimination and is a member of the discrimination law team in the human rights department.

Before joining Leigh Day & Co Chris was the senior legal officer at the Disability Rights Commission where for six years he dealt with some of the leading cases in the field of discrimination law including Nottingham County Council v Meikle where the Court of Appeal clarified a number of key provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Chris also represented the applicants in the first EAT case after the introduction of the Statutory Grievance & Disciplinary procedures (BUPA Care Homes (BNH) Ltd -v- Cann 2006) confirming that tribunals do retain the jurisdiction to extend time limits in sex, race and disability discrimination cases.

The current focus of Chris’ work is equal pay. He is trained and experienced in job evaluation and has assessed numerous job roles and negotiated with employers on behalf of individuals to ensure the implementation of non-discriminatory pay scales.

Chris has also has an interest in human rights and prepared submissions on behalf of the interested party in a number of cases in the High Court and Court of Appeal, including the case brought by Leslie Burke seeking to challenge the rights of doctors to decide when his treatment can be stopped, Burke v General Medical Council & Others [2005] EWCA

Chris regularly writes articles and gives presentations on discrimination and equal pay.
