Overseas claimants

Many industrial diseases have a "latency period", meaning that the disease develops several years, or even decades, after the exposure to the harmful substance.  Asbestos diseases are a prime example, but the same applies to other diseases, such as silicosis, bladder cancer caused by industrial dyes and nasal cancer caused by wood dust.  Often, victims move overseas in the period between their exposure and when they develop a disease, but if they want to bring a legal claim they usually need to do so in the UK.

Leigh Day & Co has acted for numerous clients living overseas, bringing cases for victims in many countries, including Australia, South Africa, Jamaica and America.  We usually work in conjunction with local solicitors to ensure our clients have direct access to their legal advisors and so that information can be obtained easily.  That way we ensure our foreign clients receive the same high service as those in England.
