Sapna Malik
Sapna Malik and Martyn Day picked by The Times as leading UK lawyers
22 April 2008
Sapna Malik has been chosen as
Lawyer of the Week in the Times (22.4.08)
for her work acting for the family of the late Baha Mousa and eight other Iraqis
who were allegedly tortured by British troops. She successfully argued that the
Ministry of Defence had breached the claimants’ human rights and that they were
entitled to compensation. Sapna was also acknowledged for her work in the Law Gazette
two weeks ago.
Meanwhile The
Times has put months of research into establishing the most powerful and
influential individuals in the law today to create their inaugural Top 100
list.
Martyn Day, senior partner at Leigh Day & Co was selected for this list because of his reputation for leading high profile group actions. These cases have included the tobacco litigation, the Sellafield leukaemia case and the Japanese prisoner of war claims. More recently, Martyn has led successful claims on behalf of Colombian farmers against BP and 1,300 Kenyans who were injured by British Army munitions.
