Vijay is a senior solicitor who undertakes
industrial disease and
complex injury cases.
He is trained as both a barrister and solicitor and after undertaking a mixture of both commercial and voluntary legal work, he realised that his sole interest lay in acting for claimants faced with difficult circumstances.
After completing his training contract at Hodge Jones & Allen, he joined Leigh Day in February 2007. Since then, he has maintained a track record of achieving success in difficult cases, particularly
asbestos disease cases.
His most notable success occurred when he acted for Mr Chandler in the landmark case of
Chandler v Cape Plc [2011] EWHC 951 (QB) which set a new legal precedent both in tort and company law because it was the first case of its kind to hold a parent/group company liable for one of its subsidiary company’s operations.
He has obtained several other successful outcomes on behalf asbestos and industrial disease victims and in complex injury claims. He recently procured an admission of liability on behalf of the victims of a fatal gas explosion in Harrow. In cases involving terminally ill patients, he was able to negotiate settlement within three months. He has successfully acted for various other claimants who were the victims of major accidents in the workplace and elsewhere.
His clients have commented on his “professional, calm and kind manner”.
As a result of his work, Vijay has developed considerable litigation experience. He personally represents his clients at case management hearings in the mesothelioma fast track court and has also represented families at inquest hearings.
It is his extensive litigation experience that enabled him to obtain accreditation as a Senior Litigator of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.
He is knowledgeable on the current state of the law and writes the Personal Injury Update for the Solicitors’ Journal.
