Gideon Habel – Solicitor

Gideon is a solicitor working with Sapna Malik in the international and group claims department.
 
Gideon joined Leigh Day & Co in September 2008 as a trainee and undertook seats in the international and group claims and human rights departments, gathering experience across a range of private and public law practice areas,  before qualifying into the international and group claims department in September 2010.
 
Since joining the firm, Gideon has worked in high profile actions on the domestic and international stage. These have included seeking a new inquest into the death of the former government weapons expert, Dr David Kelly, pursuing claims of very serious abuses perpetrated by British military personnel of Iraqi civilians and acting for former Iraqi interpreters employed by the British Army in Iraq who allege that they were left defenceless by their employers against reprisal attacks by anti-coalition militia.
 
Gideon has a particular interest in international human rights litigation against government and corporate actors. He previously studied Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge before retraining as a solicitor and has also volunteered with Reprieve, the Law Centre and the Free Representation Unit.
