Ruth Barry

Ruth Barry is a solicitor working with Shubhaa Srinivasan in the International and Group Claims Department, specialising in international litigation. Ruth joined Leigh Day in 2011 having qualified as a solicitor in Ireland.
Ruth is currently involved in a group action representing land owners and campesino farmers in Colombia before the High Court of England against a former subsidiary of BP Exploration (Colombia) Ltd for environmental damage caused to their lands by construction of the OCENSA pipeline.
Ruth has a keen interest in protection of human rights at both a domestic and international level and has worked in particular with prisoners groups, refugees and immigrants in Ireland, Mexico and Spain. She completed a LLM in International Human Rights Law in 2004 in the Irish Centre for Human Rights in Galway, Ireland, having specialised in post-conflict and transitional justice. Ruth also worked for the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland, before joining Leigh Day. Ruth speaks Spanish, French and Irish.
