The human rights team has acted for local residents who have challenged decisions by local councils to transfer council housing to privately run housing associations. The team has also obtained compensation for a learning disabled couple whose local council did not transfer them to appropriate accommodation.

For the first time it has been decided that local authorities can owe a duty of care to vulnerable adults as well as to children. Frances Swaine, partner and head of the human rights department at Leigh Day & Co, explains.
 
Camden council have been in consultation with their council house tenants over the introduction of a new government initiative aimed at handing over the management of council house stock to an external body.
