Crane crash families and businesses instruct Leigh Day & Co

2 October 2006

Specialist law firm Leigh Day & Co has been instructed by a number residents and business owners adversely affected by the crane crash in Battersea on 26th September 2006. These include a woman who was in her flat with her young grandchild at the time of the crash, when the windows in her flat came crashing in. The residents, many with young children, have been scattered around London.

While some residents have been told that the flats may be safe to return to this week, others have been told it could be up to 6 months. Understandably wary of returning to their homes so soon after the tragedy, and having endured months of interference by the building works going on close to their homes, the residents are demanding to see independent expert evidence that the flats are safe to return to; and to know what steps have been taken to guarantee that this disaster is not repeated.

The crane crash occurred in the early evening of Tuesday 26 September, when a 165 foot crane collapsed onto a block of flats, killing two people, injuring others and leaving many residents homeless. The Metropolitan Police are working with the Health and Safety Executive to try to find out what caused the accident.

If you have been affected by the crash, or have any queries relating to this incident, please contact Gene Matthews on 020 7650 1234.
