Olympic level horsewoman awarded £810,000 for car crash injuries

24 March 2005

A woman, who suffered serious head, facial and orthopaedic injuries when she was involved in a head-on car crash, has been awarded damages of £810,000 in an out of court settlement last week.

The successful IT saleswoman was an extremely accomplished horsewoman, competing at Olympic level in her sport. She was involved in a head-on collision with another car when the driver had a heart attack at the wheel and veered into her path at speed.

She suffered serious head, face and orthopaedic injuries

She suffered very serious head, facial and orthopaedic injuries, including loss of the sight of one eye. Her head injury meant that she had to give up her successful career in the city and the extensive orthopaedic injuries mean she is unlikely ever to return to riding at her previous level.

The case was brought to a conclusion last week following successful negotiations by her solicitor, Leigh Day partner, Sally Moore. The trial was due to take place in July but a settlement of £810,000 was agreed.
