Widow of racing cyclist gets six figure compensation

3 February 2005

A substantial six figure sum has been recovered on behalf of the widow of Colin Rodd, a 64 year old cyclist who was tragically killed in July 2003 whilst competing in the Leo Road Club 30 mile Time Trial in Essex.

The accident happened early on a Sunday morning. He was hit by an airport taxi minibus which was joining the Colchester-bound A12 at the Marks Tey Junction and  was declared dead at the scene.

Colin was a popular, committed and successful cyclist. The minibus driver, Stuart Secker, was later convicted of the criminal offence of driving without due care, receiving points on his licence and a fine.

The case was funded and supported by British Cycling.
