Consumer group highlights high level of kitchen appliance fires

Which? raises awareness on Beko white goods

Interior of fridge: istock

19 April 2012

Today the consumer group Which? has published data regarding reports of kitchen appliances allegedly linked to house fires.

According to government statistics recently obtained by Which?, almost 6,000 consumer appliances or their electrical leads caught fire because of faults between 2010 and 2011.

Particular concern has been raised over Beko fridge-freezers, after the Fire Brigade Service has confirmed that 91 Beko refrigeration appliances have been involved in house fires over the past two years.

The report also highlights research in relation to Hotpoint dishwashers which the report says seem to be associated with a disproportionate number of fires.
