The specialist
cycle injury team at
personal injury firm Leigh Day & Co has secured compensation for British Cycling members who were injured in
road traffic collisions.
In January 2011 Seven Bell was involved in a road traffic accident as he and three other cyclists were cycling along Apy Hill Lane in Doncaster. A car driver, travelling in the opposite director to the cyclists, lost control of his vehicle and collided with Seven. As a result of this collision Steven suffered concussion and other soft tissue injuries, damage to his bicycle and other losses. The driver’s insurance company took 10 months to admit liability, but once liability was admitted Steven received full compensation for his injuries and damaged items.
Rory Fowler was injured in a road traffic accident in July 2011 which happened as he was cycling along Charlton-on-Otmoor High Street in Oxfordshire. As Rory was cycling along a driver moved to the left hand side of the road as if intending to park. Without warning the driver then made a right-hand turn and cut across Rory’s path and collided with him. Rory was thrown from his bicycle and suffered personal injuries, damage to his bicycle and other consequential losses. The driver admitted liability and Rory received compensation for his injuries and damage to this bicycle.
Ray, a British Cycling member, has successfully recovered damages after a road traffic accident, which occurred on 15 August 2011, as he was cycling along the A20 Sidcup bypass. As Ray was cycling along a driver collided with the back of his bike. As a result of the impact he was thrown from his bicycle and sustained personal injury, damage to his bicycle and other consequential losses. Liability for the accident was admitted by the driver and Ray received compensation for his personal injury and the damage to his bicycle.
British Cycling member, Peter Dove has successfully recovered damages after being involved in a road traffic accident, which occurred on 13 April 2011, as he was cycling along Wheatley Lane Road, Nelson in Lancashire. As he cycled along a driver failed to give way and pulled out in front of his path. As a result Peter was forced to brake hard to avoid a collision when, without warning, the driver pulled to the right cutting him which resulted in him hitting the back of the vehicle. Peter was thrown from his bicycle and sustained personal injury, damage to his bicycle and other consequential losses. Fortunately the driver admitted liability and Peter received compensation for his personal injury and the damage to his bicycle. He was represented by

Ian Murray has received compensation after a road traffic accident, which occurred on 30 July 2009, as he was cycling around the roundabout junction of Watling Street in Fenny Stratford. As Ian was cycling around the roundabout junction of Watling Street, Simpson Road and Aylesbury Street a driver entered the roundabout from Watling Street. Ian had priority on the roundabout at this time. After seeing Ian very late, the driver applied her brakes to avoid a collision, but was unable to stop her vehicle in time. Ian turned to his right to lessen the impact of the collision and was struck by the car. As a result of the impact Ian fell to the ground and his bicycle landed on top of him. He suffered personal injury, damage to his bicycle and other consequential losses. Liability for the accident was admitted by the defendant and Ian received compensation for his personal injury and the damage to his bicycle. Ian was represented by

British Cycling member Frank Smith has successfully recovered damages in relation to a road traffic accident, which occurred on 4 June 2007, as he was cycling along A59 at the Bridge Crossing. As Frank was cycling along the A59 at the bridge crossing the river into the city centre, a driver was moving in the same direction and hit Frank from behind. Frank was thrown from his bicycle and sustained personal injury, damage to his bicycle and other consequential losses. Liability for the accident was admitted by the defendant and Frank received compensation for his personal injury and the damage to his bicycle. Frank was represented by

Fabio Amati has been compensation after a road traffic accident, which occurred on 24 June 2011, as he was cycling along King Street, Hammersmith. As Fabio was cycling along driver failed to notice him and opened their door into Fabio’s path. As a result he was thrown over the handle bars and landed on the road suffering personal injury, damage to his bicycle and other consequential losses. Liability for the accident was admitted by the defendant and Fabio received compensation for his personal injury and the damage to his bicycle. Fabio was represented by
