Following a successful free legal advice clinic held by product liability solicitors Leigh Day & Co in Stockton on Tees and Cardiff, the team is holding another clinic in Guildford on 20 June 2011 for people who are concerned about their metal on metal hip replacements.
The Guildford clinic is free and provides an opportunity for anyone who is concerned about their metal on metal hip replacement to find out if they might be entitled to compensation. Feedback from previous sessions indicated that attendees found the Stockton on Tees and Cardiff Clinics very useful.
Patients who have had a DePuy ASR component fitted have been recalled by their treating hospitals for review. Patients with other metal-bearing hip replacements such as Corin Cormet or DePuy Pinnacle Hip systems should also be followed up regularly for five years post-hip replacement operation and probably for the life of the prosthesis.
We have been approached by over 500 people who have had concerns over their metal on metal hip implants from a variety of manufacturers. We always recommend to our clients the importance of going back to their consultant first for a review of their hip replacement and to ask for an analysis of Cobalt and Chromium in the blood and serum and if appropriate MRI scans even if they are asymptomatic. So this would be a good first step if anyone is worried. You may also find it useful to get in touch with some patient support groups - ASR hip support group: David Lentigane or DePuy Corail support group: Margaret Davie.
