Double success for cycling team

31 January 2011

British Cycling member Tom McEvoy has successfully recovered damages in relation to a road traffic collision that happened on 21 August 2009 as he was cycling around the Yorkshire Grey roundabout in Eltham.

As he was travelling around the roundabout a driver was travelling west and approached the roundabout from Westhorne Avenue.  The driver did not stop at the ‘give way’ point at the mouth of Westhorne Avenue junction with the roundabout and drove in Tom’s bicycle.  Tom had priority on the roundabout at the time.  He was thrown from his bike and suffered personal injury, damage to his bicycle and other consequential losses.

The driver admitted liability and Tom received compensation for his personal injury and the damage to his bike. His claim was supported and funded by British Cycling.

Stewart Ravenhall has also recovered damages relating to a road traffic incident in which he was involved on 3rd June 2010 as he was approaching the West Street and Spring Lane T-junction in Olney, Bucks.

As Stewart slowly cycled along West Street, approaching the give way lines of the junction, a driver turned into West Street, cut the corner and drove into him.  Stewart was thrown from his bike and suffered personal injury, damage to his bicycle and other consequential losses.

The driver admitted liability. Stewart recovered from his injuries in eight weeks, he received compensation for his injuries and damage to his bicycle.  His claim was supported and funded by British Triathlon Federation.

Both men were represented by personal injury solicitor Philip Hunter, a member of the firm’s cycling and sports injury team.
