Leigh Day & Co has successfully settled a case for a mesothelioma widow for a global sum exceeding £100,000 after the case had passed through the hands of two previous sets of solicitors without resolution.
Our client worked with asbestos in the early 1960’s mixing asbestos powder with water as an insulating material. Decades later in the late 1990’s he developed symptoms of breathlessness and was diagnosed with pleural thickening. His solicitors at the time discontinued his claim without protecting his position for the future and unfortunately his condition deteriorated significantly in 2008, following which he was diagnosed with the fatal asbestos related cancer, mesothelioma. He instructed solicitors to deal with his case, but sadly died just a few days later.
After 18 months of the case failing to progress, his widow asked Daniel Easton to represent her and Leigh Day & Co accepted her instructions in July 2010. Six months later, the case was brought to a successful conclusion in an out of court settlement.
