3 June 2010
After the success and positive feedback from the last three years, we are delighted to announce the fourth Leigh Day & Co Charity Dragon Boat Race is taking place on Thursday 15 July 2010 at the West Reservoir Watersports Centre in London.
We are looking for teams to take part in our exciting dragon boat challenge and help raise money for the One World Action.
Details of the event:
Date: Thursday 15 July 2010
Venue: West Reservoir Watersports Centre, Green Lanes, London, N4 2HA (Nearest Tube: Manor House)
Time: 5pm –10pm
We are delighted to report that the following teams have already confirmed their boats for this year's event:
Teams (men’s, women’s or mixed) can consist of colleagues, friends, relatives or a mixture of all of the above! This will be a fun event on and off the water with a bar, barbeque and medals for the winning team.
Dragon boat racing in the 21st century involves teams racing in elaborately decorated 10 metre boats, to the beat of heavy drums! The boats have carved colourful dragon heads and tails and each carries a crew of 10 paddlers, the drummer at the bow (who quite frankly has the cushy job and is usually the boss) and a professional steersman at the stern.
Dragon boat racing is great teambuilding event as everyone works together in a fun and competitive environment as well as an exciting social occasion with a difference! Supporters are welcome to come and cheer you along and enjoy the evening.
These benefits are however, secondary to the most important purpose of the day raising funds for One World Action. The One World Action’s mission is to create the power and opportunity for the poorest citizens to transform their own lives, and to challenge the international policies that make and keep people poor. They provide funding, expertise and practical support to partner organisations committed to strengthening the democratic process and improving people’s lives in poor and developing countries. They place particular emphasis on women's rights and gender equality.
