Barrowford cyclist receives compensation

4 February 2010

British Cycling member John Sherriffs has recovered damages following a road traffic collision which occurred on the 6 November 2009 as he was cycling along Barrowford Road in Barrowford.  John was thrown from his bike as a result of a motorist joining his lane when John had priority at the junction. As a result of the defendant’s negligent actions, John was struck on the nearside of his bike and landed heavily on the side of the road.

As a result of the incident, John suffered lower back pain and bruising and swelling to various parts of his body. His bike and clothing were also damaged. A letter of claim was sent to the defendant’s insurance company on the 1 December 2009 and liability was accepted for the collision several weeks later. Following negotiation with the defendant insurers John received his settlement cheque on the 26 January 2010.

John was represented by Penny Knight and Robert Goodship in Leigh Day & Co’s Cycling and Sports Injuries Team. John’s claim was supported and funded by British Cycling.
