It has been reported that Depuy ASR metal on metal hip replacements have been found to have a high failure rate and to cause high levels of metal ion release into patients who have been fitted with the device. The device was withdrawn from the Australian market in December 2009 although there has been no recall in the US or UK. Some patients have had to have the device replaced thereby undergoing painful repeat surgery.
Boz Michalowska Howells represented many UK citizens who had to have replacement surgery after being fitted with the Depuy Hylamer hip component which was withdrawn from the UK market in 2001, and is currently representing a group of Australian claimants in relation to the early failure of the LCS Duo fix knee replacement also manufactured by Depuy.
Patients who have undergone hip replacement surgery and are suffering pain or discomfort should check with their doctors to see which hip device they were fitted with.
For a free initial consultation about the possibility of a compensation claim relating to the Depuy hip replacement device please contact Boz Michalowska Howells on 020 7650 1200.
