Maurice Agis, the Dreamspace artist, has been found guilty at Newcastle Crown Court of breaching health and safety rules after two people were killed when his giant inflatable sculpture broke free of its moorings and flipped over in July 2006. The jury gave a unanimous decision that s.3(2) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (General duties of employers and self-employed to persons other than their employees) had been breached. Leigh Day partner Sally Moore is attending the trial of the artist and is representing the families of the two women killed in the tragedy.
The jury was discharged today after failing to reach verdicts on two manslaughter charges.
