A man has died and six people have been injured after a gas canister exploded in a warehouse in the Mundells, Welwyn, Garden City, Hertfordshire.
Hertfordshire Police said one of the people taken to hospital was seriously injured while four suffered minor injuries. Last night emergency services remained at the scene to carry out forensic tests.
A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said the site had been run by pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline but the company has yet to comment on the blast.
Leigh Day & Co previously acted for a number of individuals and businesses affected by an explosion at the Buncefield Oil Depot in December 2005. The claim of Paul Reed, who was at the heart of the explosion, was settled in April this year by Daniel Easton who is continuing to act for another victim of the blast.
Daniel comments:
There can be many complicated issues arising from cases such as this, for example, with Buncefield the litigation is still continuing in relation to who was responsible for the blast, despite heavy involvement from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Victims are often presented with numerous problems, on top of the trauma of dealing with their injuries. They may need advice on dealing with HSE and Police interviews or accessing private medical treatment through their employer's insurers. With their employer not trading they will need to replace lost earnings and may want to apply for state benefits which can be a complicated affair in itself. These are all matters a solicitor can assist with and are often inextricably linked with pursuing compensation so receiving good clear legal advice can be a bit of lifeline.
