Pothole compensation for cyclist

3 March 2008

2006 came to a crashing end for Jack Peterson, a British Cycling member when he was out on a training run on 31st December 2006 along a country road in Northants. His front wheel hit a pothole which was disguised from view by rain water. He suffered a broken right shoulder blade as a result and was consequently off work for four weeks.

The Council admitted that they had failed to notice the pothole during their routine inspections and that it should have been noted and repaired. Shortly after Jack's accident was reported the defect was repaired. Jack's claims was resolved without the need for legal proceedings by Penny Knight in the cycling and sports injuries team at Leigh Day & Co.
