Sally Moore, head of the accidents and disasters department at Leigh Day & Co is currently representing
Evan Reynolds who featured in the programme on Five on 2nd July 2008,
Robochick and Bionic Boy, which is part of their
Extraordinary People series.
Evan lost his hand in an accident in August 2006 when a car in which he was a passenger passed too closely to the gate post when exiting a car park. Unfortunately Evan had his arm resting on the door frame of the car at the time and it was trapped between the gate post and the car.
In the days after the accident his brother spent hours on the internet looking at prosthetic limb companies and came across
Touch Bionics, an award-winning company who were were in the process of developing the i-limb hand, an articulating bionic hand. The company was initially reluctant to work with Evan as the project was at such an early stage of development and referred him to
Dorset Orthopaedics. The two companies then worked closely together and invited Evan to test a protoype of the i-limb hand which he has has done with great success.
He is an extremely positive and determined young man who has remained very active, plays rugby (having designed his own protector, a clip of him in action could be seen in the programme), spent last summer driving motor boats, went snowboarding last winter and is planning to study sports science from September having recently re-sat A levels (results awaited).
