Leigh Day & Co has successfully recovered over £30,000 damages for an asbestosis sufferer. Mr S worked as a fitter and turbine engineer between the mid-1950’s until his retirement in 1982 and was exposed to asbestos by several employers. After serving in the Air Force, he worked for Dorman Long at their works on the River Tees before working with Metropolitan Vickers, British Thomson-Houston and then finally with ICI. Asbestos was extensively used as an insulating material on pipes and machinery in the workspace and laggers would frequently disturb the asbestos distributing dust into Mr S’s working environment.
When he developed a lung condition late in 2005 which made him short of breath and less able to undertake jobs around the house, Mr S contacted Leigh Day & Co who traced his former employers and brought a claim on his behalf. The claim was settled before court proceedings were issued with damages split between each of his former employers according to the time that he spent working for them.
